Good Day.

So yesterday was a pretty good day. I knew that we were having a work 'function' after work when I came in yesterday so I half expected the day to be nice. At lunch my department MD's got a shit load of sushi for everyone....then at around 2:30 one of the assistants showed up with like 5 flats of beer (again from the MD's). Then we had this 'town hall' meeting....so everyone in the company packed into a boardroom and the MD's told us we were all getting extra vacation time and then gave everyone an Apple ipod Shuffe....the 1GB too.

We then proceeded to go to this sports bar with indoor basketball, golf, beach volleyball, mini golf, video games.....needless to say I had a pretty good time last night. Feeling good today too......I recommend ending the night with a red bull and vodka....seemed to make me better. And Darcy ....don't give me technical medical talk about how it really didn't make me feel better.

Okay I just remembered what Ron actually said. It was that if you save 1,00 a year in an RRSP from the time you are 18 (I think) that you will have saved a million by the time you retire. I stand corrected. Think I am going to go see the Enron documentary on Wednesday, should be good. Think I will just keep all my money in a dirty sock under my bed. Ok well to squash this debate about a Million dollars for retirement. Hopefully everyone knows about CPP (Canada Pension Plan), you pay in to get out...unless you're Donnie and then you will be under the Australian government pension plan. Also most companies have a pension plan for their employees. Although both of these are available, there is no guarantee that one will receive these benefits. I personally do not think that there is a need to have a million dollars tucked away. I was working on the money management side of things when I first got out here and we had clients that where very successful and going into retirement and did not have a million. Also if you have a large portion of money saved in an RRSP then when you hit a specific age, that RRSP turns into an RIF (Retirement Income Fund). So you say how much you want to remove from this account yearly, monthly or whatever. It's like having a bank account in the markets. So your money is trying to grow while you are depleting it, the advantage to this account is again tax breaks (like the RRSP).
Also if anyone is getting a mortgage soon I was reading this weekend about borrowing against a mortgage and then investing and using the proceeds of the investment to pay the interest on the mortgage, thus allowing you to write off your mortgage interest payments on you taxes. I'm sure everyone is pumped about that bit of information.

As for Darcy's world cup comment. I am planning on going to the World Cup next summer in Germany. It will be a two week trip in June, I have been looking into tickets and I have my name in for the first round draw (it's a weird system), if I don't get any in the first round I will be going into the second draw. The only thing about the second is that it is for teams specific tickets. So you pretty much just pick a team and follow them around. Which wouldn't be too bad if you got a good group to watch....and you could see a bunch of different venues. So if anyone is interested in coming along let me know so I can get tickets....Darcy has express some interest, and my boy Jon from Mount A is down.



One last thing on the Million dollar topic. If you had a million dollars in an account...and you invested it. A reasonable return for a conservative investor is 6% which would work out to $60,000 dollars a year. Now say you wanted to live nice for the rest of your life, so you take out $100,000 each year. Thus depleting your base each year. This million dollars would last you 15+ years before running out. Also take into account CPP and maybe your company's pension plan, also the many discounts you will be getting as a senior, well I think that this million dollar baby has just been squashed. (note: if you just took out the $60,000 each year this money would last indefinitely - in theory)

Extended thoughts about this. If you have a house paid for and all other big tickets (ie. car, cottage, kids school), then you wouldn't need that much income. So say you got $30,000 a year in retirement, maybe $1,000/mo from CPP and the rest from savings (note that I'm assuming you don't have a work pension). To make up the remaining $18,000 ($30,000 - ($1,000/mo x 12 months)) you would need $300,000 in savings, and assuming as before that you invest it and get a 6% return, this will give you an income of $30,000 for the rest of your life and leave behind the $300,000 dollar base for your children.

Now if you were working and say at the age of 25 you decided that you wanted to start saving for retirement. Say you are making $50,000 a year and you are saving the recommended 20% of your income. So $10,000 dollars is your inital investment, and every year after you decide to increase you're contribution by 5% so in year 2 it would be $10,500, year 3 $11,025....and so on. Now to get to the required $300,000 dollars you would want it would take approx. 15 years (assuming that each year you invested the money and got an average return of 6%). So that would mean at 40 years of age a person could retire and live a pretty good life of leisure. Now I am only trying to up this by 5 years, which I don't feel is too crazy.

Sure your house and car may be payed for but you are not making any income, unless you are investing the nest egg, so everything is coming out of that. You got food, trips, kiddies, grand kiddies, latests video game system and games, etc... all sucking money out of you each and every year. I believe a million is for a comfortable retirement. Here is some info:

My department:

3 Analysts - ages 22, 25 (me), 26 average salary approx. $ a lot.

2 Associates - both 26, average salary approx. $250,000

2 VP's - 30, 32, average salary approx. $350,000+ depending on company profit

1 Director - 36, average salary approx. $500,000+ depending on company profit

1 Managing Director - 37, from my calculations he makes about $2-4 Million a year. He just bought a $750,000 dollar special edition porche.

Also as an understanding of how much money goes through our office here is a nice stat. Since I've started (March 1 2005) I have kept a spread sheet of how much revenue we have made. So in less than two months it is in excess of $8.5 Million dollars. So I'm sure that the upper guys will be getting a nice bonus in June.

So now by the time you finish school I will have about 4 years of experience and 4 years of cash. In two years I will be an Associate. So as long as I don't spend money like I'm fuckin Donald Trump, then I'll be cool.

So really freedom 35 doesn't mean never work again...it just means that I'll be out the big city life and living on pei (maybe) with a money crib all the toys I can handle....a go cart track in the back yard. Hopefully working as a consultant or maybe an oil and gas fund manager (maybe 20 hours a week)....I haven't really thought about it.....all I know is I came home last night and my girl had three different kinds of import beer in my fridge and food ready to go.........as long I got that type of life I'm rich bitch.

In order to retire at 35 you would not only have to make a couple million dollars but you would have to save a couple million. I recall hearing ron say once during a moment of wisdom that if you are retiring at 65 you should have at least a million saved. Considering that most people live to there early/mid 70's and that is only a couple years after 65 you are going to need a hell of a lot more to start retirement at 35. Good luck to trying though.

Damn seems like if I check this thing on a daily basis no one has shit to say, then I take a few days off and I have to dedicate half a day to catching up. Mostly I skip over Darcy's posts, they are long and I know your a vegetarian, not eating meat is a waste of chewing you don't need to remind me.

I'm very impressed with the length of these blogs. I find it hard to write a couple sentences because I basically do the same thing everyday and fail to have many imaginative thoughts that I care to share. With regard to the meat and cancer article, which I haven't finished reading yet, I was just talking to lyndsay about pancreatic cancer today (she is taking a pathology class) and apparently it is the worst type of cancer you can get, she couldn't remember why but it is probably because it mimicks the effects of diabetes before it metastisizes to other areas (e.g. liver) and since people are over weight you wouldn't think anything of them getting diabetes. Anyhoo, fish is good for you but I don't agree with the whole fisheries industry, they are basically just fishing the shit out of the water till there is nothing left then they complain (bias much)(I stick with the veggie sushi, probably just as good and they have it at most of the places I have gone to). They are rich lazy fucks for most of the year then work there asses of for a couple of months and make a ton of money. Then they complain to the governement. Not a fan of the seal hunting either. I would love to go out there and club some of them over the head till they die (in a non-violent manner of course). Fucking idiots, makes me sick. When I was home they had a debate on compass (worst new show I have ever watched) between a persion from a stop seal hunting website and the fisheries guy from PEI. What a fucking dope, she killed him. I could describe it in detail but I will save it, basically he looked like a giant tub of lard sitting there pretending that he had some statistics that it was okay, she then took that stat and told him how it was bullshit, crammed it down his ass and left him to repeat himself over and over. Sooo, if you can go without eating meat amen to you, if you can't then you will die a slow and horrible death (maybe). You are going to get one form of cancer or another before you die so no need helping Mr Cancer out with the macaroni meat and the tube sausage. We actually had to go on a palliative care visit and the person we saw had pancreatic cancer that had spread to the liver, horrible.

So I have yet to become a veggie man....but I have some strict rules about meat eating now.

• rarely do I eat red meat or pork (maybe 1 a month)
• Baked chicken only (unless I go for wings ...again 1 a month)
• I do not eat any type of meat that is a geometric shape (circle, square, cylinder, etc.)
• And all the sushi I can eat. (I figure fish isn't that bad especially non-cooked...and I stay away from farmed salmon)

A new study indicates that eating too many hot dogs, sausages, lunch meats, and other processed types of meats may put a person at risk of pancreatic cancer. This study, which was conducted by the Cancer Research Center at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, is being discussed today at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.

This is not the first study that has linked heavy meat consumption to pancreatic cancer, but previous studies have been somewhat inconclusive. In this instance, however, researchers studied over 190,000 men and women of diverse, multi-ethnic backgrounds. When the study began in the mid-1990s, each of the participants completed a questionnaire profiling his or her dietary habits. By the end of the study, 482 of the participants had developed pancreatic cancer.

The results of the seven year study are as follows:

- The people who consumed over 40 grams a day of processed meats were 67 percent more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those who consumed the lowest amounts.
- Those who ate over 70 grams a day of red meat and/or pork showed a 50 percent increase in their risk of pancreatic cancer.
- Eating fish, poultry, dairy products, and eggs does not appear to increase risks of pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Ute Nöthlings, who was the study’s lead investigator believes the actually processing of these meats may be the root cause for the cancer risk, rather than the fat content. She points out that while both meats and dairy products include fats and saturated fats, eating a diet high in dairy products does not increase one’s risk of cancer.

She wrote, 'The results suggest that carcinogenic substances related to meat preparation, rather than their inherent fat or cholesterol content, might be responsible for the association.' Dr. Nöthlings thinks it is possible that chemical reactions occur during the processing of the meats and that these reactions may be the reason for the increased cancer rates.

Yeah that Enron movie looks good. It makes it a lot more interesting being in the business. I wish another company would do that shit...so i could buy their stock and ride the wave.

Also there was an article in the Globe and Mail about how Enron practiced the 'energy surge' technique here in Alberta. It was then used to steal Billions from the state of Cali.

There is talk of the Alberta government getting Millions of dollars in settlement pay for the one day that Enron did this in Alberta....Crazy.

I have been trying to do a similar type of night time excursions with an ipod blastin, except running instead of biking and downtown montreal instead of mountains, ahhh the crisp clean air of downtown montreal. I could probably run on the mountain but it would have to be during the day or else I would get raped and pillaged by numerous shaddy individuals. I have also thought about keeping a journal and have actually started one on several occasions but it comes down to commitment and dedication (and memory) and I have none of this, just too lazy. I went for like a 3 hour bike ride last night....it was awesome. I drove to the mountains and rode on this road that is closed for some type of moose migration. But it is open to cyclists. So I just crused with ipod blasting and enjoyed the view. While I was out there I thought about keeping a journal....imagine writing down your day to day thoughts, events and all that shit....then 30 years down the road picking it up and reading it....or better yet, if you had kids give it to them when they turn like 18. That would be a way to change a kids view on shit. I wish I could have had a book like that when I was leaving high school. It'd be like learning a whole life before yours even starts.

Anyway....just a thought. I would also like to read other ppl's cause it would be cool read what ppl you know have done and seen.

Been a while since I wrote on the motherfuckin blog so here I am.... Been busy working two jobs and all... But that's all over in about 2 weeks and I can't fucking wait. Moving into a house accross from simmons off of northriver road (hopefully) in a couple of weeks too, with Jesse, Andrew Dennis and Mike Gillis. It's a sweet spot but we gotta sort some shit out before it's official. Gonna try and play lots of hoops at colonel gray cause there's always people playing there. Ok as far as hip hop goes, I don't get into all that new shit. I mean I'll listen to it, but I'm not gonna get into it. I'm loving old chill shit like Tribe, the roots, blackalicious, J5, B-Boys, De La, ect... Gimme some more shit like that if you know of any.... Please and thanks... As far as the tourney is concerned, X-Box sucks donkey dick except for the graphics. And I don't think we should play it only cause the graphics are better. The game play is much better on the PS2. With PS controllers I'd consider, but I still think the PS2 plays better....

FUCK FUCK FUCK pt 2

Ok I got to go to soccer. I get in the car with BoBo (aka Boris Samu) and I look at my phone....6 Missed Calls?? WHAT? Oh yeah I forgot I'm the 'Chart Man' ....which when translated from Investment Banker lingo to english means 'Bitch with Large asshole for fucking repeatedly with large non-symetrical object'. So I get to work (in my soccer stuff still sweating) and the guy above me the 'associate' (i'm an analyst) who's title really means 'I've been fucked very hard for at least two years of my life and now I just get fucked gently'....so back to the story...he tells me yeah those charts are perfect but we need more history....like 10 years more....which means it took me like 12 hours to do 5 years ..so that means 24hrs of work....wait I have just received an email that says it has to be done in 4....great.

Other than getting fucked in the ass hard on a daily basis, there are some good things about my job, such as:

• I don't pay for food casue I expense every meal I eat (I haven't gone grocery shopping in like a month)
• I don't pay for liquor at the bar cause I'm usually there with ppl from work and the highest level guy always has to pay, I AM THE LOWEST.
• oh yeah there's one other thing......yeah MONEY!!

I enjoy complaining about things.....and I enjoy having money to blow on stupid shit. Speaking of which....J when and if you make it threw Calgary...I bought a skateboard yesterday....it's sweet. And there is a 24hr concrete skate park downtown...prob about 10 walk from my house. I went last night and there are three different areas for different levels of skill.....i was in the basic area getting fucked up by like 8 yr olds doing kickflips into noseslides.....I'm just gonna cruse around my hood late at night.

9-9:05pm - shower
9:10-10pm - convince my girlfriend to hang out with me.
11-11:30pm - wait for her to come over.
11:45-12:30am - small talk
12:30-12:35 - have sex.

As a comparison here is a run down of my day:
- wake up between 8 and 12 depending on whether I feel like going to class
- eat lunch after getting home from class or after getting up
- go to a couple classes and listen/sleep in class/listen to music/draw
- go to gym and play squash or go for a run
- go home and eat
- then watch a movie/play games

this cycle continues for 2 weeks then I gradually introduce school work in the 3rd week and cram everthing in during the 4th week before we have our final for that topic.
I think I am averaging about 11-12 hours of sleep per day in any given week.
I'm sure things get much better the higher up you get, then you can just pile stuff on people below you like they are doing to you. Has anyone seen Kung-Fu Hustle? I watched half of it last night, pretty cool movie, little weird, but quite entertaining.

So it's 9:30am here on Sunday. I'm at work...actually I've been at work for like 2 hours. Hopefully I'll be out of here by 2 this afternoon, cause I have soccer. But take this...in the last 4 days I have worked 68 hours. Since Monday it's been 92...and I still have today to go. My boss told me until I break his record from when he was analyst (which is 119 hrs in a 7 day period) then he has no sympathy. Oh well what can you do.....gotta get that paper....FREEDOM 35. Here is a rundown of a typical day doing M&A.

6:30am - Wake Up

7:15am - Get to work, read news and watch market open(7:30am MT)

8:15am - Starbucks (Grande Black)

8:20am - 12:00pm - Look through financial statements and news releases to find information on the companies we are working on, in order to build M&A model. (info on www.sedar.com)

12:00pm - go get something healthy for lunch or go to a bike class at the gym and work my ass off while there are 25 hot ass girls in a total of 3 inches of spandex.

1:00pm - 5:00pm - Try and make numbers do what my Director wants them to do.

5:00pm - Dinner at some fucking place with hot girls that i can't touch. Cause there are 50 other investment bankers trying to do the same.

Dinner - Time unknown - This is when the real fun begins....after dinner the directors go home...but before they do, they take all the shit they've been working on all day and give you a BRIEF rundown and hand it off and roll out like a good QB. Then it's up to me to try a figure out what the fuck is going on and how I'm gonna get a 70 page presentation together for 7am the next morning.....WAIT I haven't even finished the fucking models...FUCK. This is the time that I have music blasting, about 3 redbulls in my veins and I'm working on two computers at once. Then I get 'THE EMAIL' at about 10ish from my Director that says "Hey how's that coming along...I'd like a copy emailed to me before you leave so I can read it first thing in the morning"..........FUCK FUCK FUCK.

alright all you bitch ass chumps....there is an adapter that you can get that plugs into the xbox and allows you to plug you're PS2 controller in and use it for the xbox. So I'm gonna pick up two of those and we'll play on xbox casue everyone knows the graphics are fuckin killin.

My cottage is probably free if we want to use that I would just have to check. The beach isn't very large or populous but my pale white gooey body never cared. Matt bring your squash racquet home with you, we should have a tourney. I have been playing a bit here and am starting to get back into form, been getting tips from that 1970 book I got off ebay for a dollar. I like that view that you are using but it isn't so good for some paces because you can't see the guy, much better depth though so you can tell how close to the basket you are. I agree with PS2, I find the xbox controller to bulky, I agree with the better graphics (same as the computer if you have everything turned up).

Fuckin' snow... its snowing again. 2 weeks ago, I was wearing just a tshirt outside... now I'm back up to wearing three hoodies. I seriously fucking hate snow. Next winter we (RB) plan on touring all winter in just the southern states just to avoid the snow.

I've just worked 7 days straight... thats sooooooo not me. I usually only pierce three days a week, and then I have 4 days to do design work, but my boss is out of the province which means I'm working for like 15 days straight. I dont think I like it.

Lately I've been working out like madddd. Not going to a gym style, but pull-up bar style and free weights style. Mike, Oke and I changed out living room into a gym. I'm also getting a Chuck Norris Total Gym from a trade for a website on wednesday.... good deal.

I haven't liked any of the new hip hop stuff, just doesn't appeal to me. The RnB was made for Ed. The 4runner is like a love shack when you got that music playing, I almost took of my panties and tossed them at you Ed at one point but I resisted. Donnie do you have any 'down to earth approach' songs, if you have heard of them, I can't find any and they sound pretty good. Big screen is a good idea and yes you can do that because people do it all the time during the superbowl, could have everyone through in a couple bucks and get a tv and some brewskys. Shit I'm bad at keeping up to date on these posts my bad, no excuses either since I don't do shit all day. Actually was back on a roof the other day but were not full fledged yet. Being that I've missed commenting on a few issues let me get up to date.

First of all you guys can have hip hop right now, I mean The Game, and 50 are hot, but the beef is bullshit. Pac and Biggie never hated each other and they had the biggest beef in hip hop. You ask me it's all about RNB and lovin the ladies YA HEARD ME. Ask Donnie he loves driving in the 4runner listening to Anthony Hamilton pour his broken hear out. Dude is hurtin bad in every song.

As for the tourny my vote is for standar rules at the All-Star level, I think it's more realistic than Superstar. As Donnie mentioned I'm all about the standard view, zoomed in of course. Finally can you rent TV's? Be nice to rent a big sick plasma TV if possible don't know if you can do that anywhere?

Gotta go to court tomorrow. Well I don't really, but Doug and Peter skipped out on rent a few month's back at 575 so they gotta go to the PEI reglatory and appeals commision or whatever. So I may tag along for clarifacation purposes. Or at least they want me to but I don't know if it will do any good. They are not being charged for damages just the fact that they skipped out on rent. Which they did so not much I can do.

That is when I think I am going to be home this summer. Darcy.....Chris' wedding is on Aug 6th right?? I am planning on getting in on Friday (the 5th) evening and then hopefully going out to dinner with my mom and who ever else wants to join. Then Sat hopefully I'll be going to a wedding if I get invited, if not I'm gonna get drunk with whoever else wasn't invited and then crash the reception. After this day until the 14th I have absolutely no plans. So we can figure out the tournament date then. As for the draft, I think that we wait until the night before we play. This way no one gets and unfair advantage practicing with their team more than someone else (Darcy).

So I purpose that we all go to a bar and have the draft over a bunch of pints (maybe Jake's eh Donnie). Also I think that we should pick all 12 players...cause you never know when one of you're boys in gonna get hurt. If you haven't noticed I'm trying to incorporate drinking into all my vacation events.

One last thing...if anyone can make it out here for Stampede then start planning. My company has some of the biggest Stampede events here in Calgary. The biggest is:

•First Rodeo (a private rodeo) - where we (me and my boys) compete against other teams in actual rodeo events, like herding calfs and chuck wagon races. AND we're fed free booze before you do it.

Ok first of all, I only turned off the goaltenting in one fucking game way back in the day (may have been live 95 or so for the genesis) because there weren't enough blocks in the game, and that's all I touched and you guys are still on me for that one... I agree with the superstar level, and I also agree that the game speed should be left as is. I usually leave the camera angle as is (but zoomed in so Ed doesn't cry), but I will try yours out allas and tell you what I think. As far as a created player, there would have to be some very strickt regulations on that one and I just don't think it would work... As for charges, Darcy you'd better learn a different way to play defence and stop whining that the refs aren't giving you shit, that's just an easy way out, like allas said if you move your feet and get there in time the refs will call it. When we do the draft how many guys are we picking??? I think we should do it the way we used to by selecting players from memory and writing them down on paper..... Or we could select them now (on the blog).. All twelve players, in order... We just have to figure out the draft order.... What do ya think????? (Also when is this tournament taking place????)

Ok here it is....Darcy is suggeting that we make our own players....well all that is going to do is give everyone a 7"10 PG with 99 everything and different facial features and name. AND if anyone decides to make their player shorter then they will be at a disadvantage. So I say NO to the create a player. But I am only one person so we'll have to come up with a rule book.

I think that everyone should post a set of rules that they feel should be implimented for the tourny. Obviously we are not talking about what 'real rules' we are going to play with (Donnie). This is all about outside the game type shit....like make a player, what speed to play the game at. All those Global Sliders.

Anyway put them out there and I'll create a rule book.

Also I have done the same as Darcy for training. Only one difference, I'm not a chump! I win games by twenty. I'm also working in some new offences: Flex, Box, 1-4 High, Motion
